About Superior Cashmere
Cashmere is the world’s rarest commercial fibre and one of the most expensive in nature. The entire world produces just a few thousand tonnes per year. Only vicuna and musk ox — neither produced in commercial quantities — achieve higher prices. Around 60 per cent of raw cashmere comes from China, with 70% of this from Inner Mongolia, from which the best quality product comes. Its rarity is due to the exceptionally harsh and geographically remote conditions of its production, and the labour-intensive but refined skills required for every stage of processing. Cashmere’s natural mystique is also enhanced by its being produced by exotic peoples following a timeless pastoral way of life. There are two broad grades of cashmere, making low-priced wares a false economy. Cheaper Asian-made products from short, thick fibres lack the distinctive softness, warmth, and durability for which this fabulous fibre is rightly famed. Scottish cashmere is renowned as the most exclusive product of all, using only the finest raw materials combined with expert and secret skills refined over centuries.
About Baby Alpaca
Baby Alpaca is the name given to the first year of the Alpaca shearing, at its finest. Baby Alpaca is silky soft, and non irritating. Its fiber shafts which are hollow which provide outstanding thermal properties and superbly light in weight. Baby Alpaca should not be confused with the normal Alpaca which can encompass older coarser haired Alpacas animals. Baby Alpaca is truly a luxury fiber which is not freely available outside of the Andean Countries of South America.
The Alpaca, like the llama was domesticated and farmed by the Andean Indians using breeding and husbandry methods handed down through the ages. The Alpaca is not suited to carry loads as its Vicuna and Guanaco cousins. Alpaca are found in a wide spectrum of earth colors, the most common being white but ranging through shades of grays, blacks and browns. Only the finest examples of the garments have been selected by AlpaLuxe.
About Guanaco

Guanaco can be found at altitudes up to 12,000 feet along the Andes of Peru, Argentina and Northern Chile. The typical surroundings they inhabit are the Andean pampas as well as the snow capped, wind swept peaks, and glaciers.
These endangered and now highly protected species are closely monitored by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. This is why every exclusive item you purchase of Guanaco comes to you from AlpaLuxe, with its own individually signed and registered certificate of authenticity from Peru.
About Vicuña
Vicuña is the finest, softest and most exclusive natural fiber in the world, considerably finer, silky and lighter than Cashmere or Angora.
The Vicuna, an elegant animal living at 5000 meters/ 15,000 feet above sea level in the highlands of South American Andes. The Vicuna is shorn every two years to produce an unsurpassed soft and light fiber. The ancient Incas considered the Vicuna a sacred animal. The Chaccu is a traditional ceremony handed down from the Incas.
Every four years the Inca King would order the Chaccu, the rounding up of the Vicuña to be sheared and then released unharmed. Only the Inca royalty, the elite, wore the golden fleece produced from the Vicuna. Steeped in tradition the Chaccu continues today in the Andean communities monitored by strict guidelines of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species . The Vicuna population has now significantly increased to more than 160,000 animals, living protected in national reserves. This is why every Vicuna item you purchase from AlpaLuxe comes to you with its own individually signed and registered certificate of authenticity from Peru, adding to its exclusivity.
